It is not easy living with diabetes. It is a good idea to make changes on how you live your life. It is not hard to manage your diabetes if you know how to monitor your own blood glucose levels. You will be able to live your life more normal  in spite of the fact you are suffering from being a diabetic.

You need to remember that when you get diabetes you will have it for the rest of your life. There are no known cures for the disease but you can manage it by being able to monitor your blood glucose levels.

Blood glucose levels are monitored by a glucometer or a glucose meter. The device will let you know the amount of glucose in your blood. You need to produce a small amount of blood so the machine can read it. Lancets and a lancing device are included in most glucose meter kits.

  • First off  put new lancet into your lancing device. Next take a test strip from the bottle  then replace the cap. Insert the test strip into your glucose meter so it is ready to use. It is important to was your hands and apply disinfecting alcohol to disinfect your hands. Make sure you dry your hands or you could get wrong results.
  • Prick your finger with your lancing device so the blood flows take the recommended amount of blood and place it on test strip. Most of the devices automatically reads your blood glucose levels and will produce results in a few seconds. Then take disinfected cotton and press on the area that you drew the blood.
  • Discard the test strip along with the used lancet. Be sure to record the results in your log book so you can effectively monitor your blood glucose levels during the day. This information will assist you in preparing meals in addition to knowing the right kind of activities you should or should not do.

    Diabetes is a serious disease with lots of complications if it is managed improperly.
